Skills for Life Group
Following on from above, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills for Life Group is designed to assist individuals aged 16-25 in developing skills to manage emotions, navigate challenging situations, and enhance overall well-being. The group is tailored for individuals experiencing difficulties in regulating emotions, coping with stress, and maintaining healthy relationships.
DBT is particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with emotional dysregulation, which refers to difficulties in managing intense emotions effectively. This might manifest as frequent mood swings, impulsivity, or difficulty in handling distressing situations.
However, I must mention that due to the intensity of emotional distress and potential risk factors involved, our program isn’t suited for individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) or actively self-harming (within the last 3 months). This decision was made considering the specialised treatment and support required for managing BPD, which may differ from the structure of this specific group.
The DBT Skills for Life Group offers a range of practical skills:
Emotion Regulation: Strategies to identify, understand, and manage intense emotions.
Distress Tolerance: Coping mechanisms to navigate and tolerate distressing situations without resorting to harmful behaviours.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Tools for developing and maintaining healthy relationships and effective communication.
This group aims to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking to enhance their emotional well-being and learn practical skills for everyday life challenges.
